What it does
Every feature, and why it exists
JamaBook is a daily finance collection app. Each feature below solves a problem that shows up on the route, not in a specification.
Loans
Loan types
Indian daily finance is not one product, so the app supports the shapes lenders actually issue.
| Type | How it repays | Typical use |
|---|---|---|
| Daily | A fixed instalment every day for a set number of days | Market vendors, pigmy collection, daily deposit schemes |
| Weekly | A fixed instalment once a week | Small traders, weekly haat sellers |
| Monthly | A fixed instalment once a month | Salaried borrowers, larger principals |
| Interest only (byaj) | Monthly interest on the outstanding principal; principal repaid when the borrower chooses | Traditional moneylending against a standing principal |
Sundays, and the calendar that matters
A daily loan can skip Sundays. The app stretches the schedule across the calendar rather than shortening the loan, so the instalment count stays the same and the end date moves — which is how it is actually agreed at the door.
Arithmetic
Interest, overdue and penalty
Every figure the app shows is computed from the receipts on demand. Balances, days late, overdue amount, penalty and profit are never stored, so they cannot drift out of agreement with the money.
- Balance — principal plus fees, less everything that reduces what is owed
- Days late — counted from the scheduled instalment date, not the last visit
- Penalty — accrues on missed instalments at your rate, and is income that does not reduce the balance
- Interest — on interest-only loans, accrues per elapsed month on the outstanding principal, so paying down principal lowers the monthly interest immediately
- Profit — cash collected plus fees, less principal lent
The loan engine is covered by an automated test suite that runs on every change, including the worked examples from the product specification. A market lane is a bad place to discover an arithmetic bug.
Receipts
Receipts and sharing
Every collection produces a numbered receipt carrying the business name, the agent's name, the amount, the payment mode and the balance remaining at that moment — snapshotted, so a reprint always shows what the customer was told.
Shared through any app on the phone, or saved for your own records.
To any printer Android can reach, for lenders who still hand over paper.
Payment reminders
For customers who have fallen behind, JamaBook composes a polite WhatsApp reminder naming the amount and how long it has been pending. The tone is deliberately plain and carries no threat — the Reserve Bank of India's directions on recovery conduct prohibit intimidation, and a collection book should not help anyone breach them.
Reports
Reports and statistics
See the book by day, week, month, year or a custom range, and step backward and forward through periods without re-choosing dates.
- Collected, lent, outstanding and overdue for the chosen period, each against the previous period
- Collection trend over time, and a breakdown of where the money is
- Best and weakest periods, average receipt size, and collected-against-due as a recovery rate
- CSV export of customers, loans and collections for your accountant
Security
Security and discretion
App lock
A PIN or fingerprint on open. The PIN is held in the Android keystore, never in the database, so a copied backup does not carry it.
Hide amounts
One tap masks every rupee figure on screen behind dots — for a crowded lane, or a bus seat with someone beside you.
Agent control
Add agents to your book and switch them off when they leave. Deactivation reaches the server, so access actually ends.
Sync
How offline sync works
Every write goes to the phone's own database first and is added to a queue. The app drains that queue in the background whenever there is a connection, and pulls down anything your other devices or agents have recorded.
Because the local write always succeeds, nothing in the app ever waits on a network — a collection saved in a basement godown is as final as one saved on Wi-Fi. If the same record changes in two places, the app never overwrites work that has not yet been sent.
You can see exactly what is unsent at any time under Settings → Sync & data, along with how many customers, loans and receipts are on that phone.
